ABOUT FERNGROVE...

Situated on 43 acres at Bilpin in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Ferngrove Trees specializes in the production of advanced & semi-mature landscaping trees & shrubs which are distributed Australia wide.

Our primary focus is on growing deciduous ornamentals, conifers & hedging plants using Root Control Technology, producing trees ranging from 2 to 5 metres in height. We grow trees in ground in Root Control Bags as well as above ground in Ezi Lift bags.

Ferngrove Trees initially started growing trees on a site at Mt Irvine in 1985. The move to Bilpin occurred in 1987.

For 21 years, Ferngrove Trees has developed a solid, reliable reputation in the nursery industry. Our clients include landscapers, landscape architects and designers, property developers, councils, nurseries, schools & TAFE, golf courses and professional horticulturalists.

Our trees have been used in a diverse range of situations – from urban streetscapes to industrial developments and residential projects. We have supplied trees to far western NSW, the Central Coast & Hunter regions, and throughout the ACT, Victoria , Queensland and South Australia .

While we are primarily a wholesale production nursery, we do sell to the general public and a retail price list is available.

Qualified Sales staff are available to offer advice & assist with selection of the most suitable species for your situation. Production Techniques

Ferngrove Trees is synonymous with growing trees and hedging plants of the highest quality.

The bulk of our tree production involves growing trees in ground. After several years and much attention to their shape & form, the trees are dug and repotted into above ground containers, ready for sale. The final bag size is determined by the trunk calliper, height & canopy size of each individual tree.

We use 75 to 200 litre Ezi-lift bags to hold above ground trees. We also have an extensive range of smaller plants grown in 25 to 45 litre containers.

Trees are also available in root control bags direct from the ground from June through to September.

Our growing system utilizes the latest technology, with our primary focus being on growing trees within NATSPEC guidelines. Particular attention is given to producing plants with excellent shape & vigour & strong root systems. The root control technologies we use include hand pruning & growing in root control bags (RCB’S).

Growing trees in ground & at wide spacing produces an excellent shape and superior trunk calliper development, as well as higher levels of carbohydrate storage. Due to our trees having particularly vigorous root systems & their being stabilised in above ground containers for an extended period prior to sale, they re-establish rapidly when re planted, usually out performing stock that has been grown in more controlled environments.

Freight & Distribution

At Ferngrove, we recognise that freight is a vital issue for our customers. Advanced & semi-mature trees are cumbersome and require specialised handling during delivery. We have our own truck which has been outfitted with our unique handling system. This system allows us to guarantee that your tree will arrive in top condition….at a very competitive rate.

With larger stock, each tree is placed in its own cradle and is then locked into position in the truck. Securing the load in this manner eliminates movement & therefore damage to any part of the tree. Placing the tree in a cradle protects the root ball leaving the fine feeder roots undamaged, thus ensuring successful transplanting.

Upon delivery, the trees are simply wheeled off the truck and are easily positioned close to where they are to be planted. Wherever you can take a wheelbarrow we can wheel our trees!

For interstate deliveries and some regional NSW deliveries, we use reputable plant freighters. Freight costs associated with using other carriers will be charged to the customer at cost.
